Why Does My Erection Go Away So Fast?

You might feel stressful when you lose erection mid-way during sex. There are several reasons for its occurrence.

Losing erection during sex could be due to hormonal changes in your body. It can occur due to any nervous disorder or other medical reasons. All these disrupt blood flow to your penis resulting in loss of erection.

How Does An Erection Work?

Erection occurs when blood vessels relax and are filled with blood. This builds pressure and rigidity in your penis. Your nerves and hormones together regulate this process. Erection occurs by one of the two main mechanisms: through a stimulus from brain i.e. smell, or stimulation of genital organs.

Erection is a process wherein:

  • Sexual arousal encourages release of nitric oxide from your nerve-terminals
  • Nitric oxide relaxes the muscles of your penis
  • During your sexual intercourse, repetitive stimulation contracts penile muscles; more blood enters into chambers, causing further rigidity

However, fears or anxieties can prevent you from having an erection. Certain medical conditions also can prevent proper blood flow; it can limit erection.

Does An Erection Mean Attraction?

Erection is not always due to sexual attraction. Erection can happen for various reasons. It can be due to physical stimulation, random physiological events, or hormonal fluctuations.

Erection is also not always due to the feeling of sex. You can have erection(s) without being attracted to someone or a sexual arousal. You may get an erection when you wake up in the morning; this is a normal physiological process.
